Being a part of a throwaway society, something about our baby things tells us to hang on to them. Even so, when you’re expecting, lots of people will ask you if you’d like to have their children’s outgrown furniture and crib bedding. You will appreciate these offers of baby bedding and cribs since babies can cost a lot of money. Before using any baby bedding, be sure that it is completely safe.
Whether it is a Moses basket or baby crib, there is something very special about your child’s first bed. Before taking the bed home make sure beyond doubt that it is perfect. Always check baby bedding to assure safety. If the cradle is of wicker, check up the joints and remove any loose things. The mattress must be replaced as it would have definitely become bad. When you are putting the bed skirt on, check it over so you can snip off any loose threads or dangling pieces of material that the baby might rip off and put in his/her mouth.
The drapes should be fixed properly. Loose materials might be caught by the child to put inside the mouth. Purchase new bedding for your crib if you are able to because the majority of organizations that are concerned about the safety of baby furniture, such as the Juvenile Products Manufacturer’s Association (JPMA) in the United States and British Standards (BS) in the UK have advised consumers to purchase new furniture and bedding, if at all possible. The JPMA seal of approval or the BS ‘Kite’ mark are shown on products that have been safety tested and meet the requirements.
Hand-me-downs may be ecologically friendly, as well as generous, preventing the loss of perfectly good furniture and baby bedding. Spending the time and effort to ensure that your little one is safe in his crib is paramount as he will be spending quite a bit of time unsupervised, so doing the proper checks of his crib is of the utmost importance. Please remember the following points when you check your baby equipment for safety. Be sure that snags that could catch on a baby’s clothes, as well as all chipped, loose, or toxic lead paints, are removed. Make sure you purchase a crib where the bars are extremely close together, (closer than 2 & 3/8 inches apart), and there are no holes anywhere, to protect your baby’s head. A sturdy crib requires tight joints and fixings. You should be able to raise and lower the side rails with one hand and the rails must be secure when raised. The final point to verify is that the mattress is clean and firm and the top of the side rail is at least 22 inches above the mattress.
A new mattress that would fit in the crib is always better. Nursery bedding that is not well-secured can cause suffocation, so either tie the bumper securely or take it out completely. For babies under a year old, overheating can be caused by using duvets, quilts, sheepskin, and pillows. Put something to measure the temperature and utilize blankets and sheets in the room. Babies are very quick little creatures, take climbing for example, before you know it they will have mastered the talent, that is why one should keep cords, lamps, window blinds/curtains and other pieces of furniture out of reach of the crib.
Always remember to enjoy every moment with your baby, they grow up before you even realize it.
